For their fourth studio album Gold and Stone, Virginia dream pop outfit Eternal Summers considered the past their muse. Last month’s alluring title track was originally an outtake from their sophomore LP, 2012’s Correct Behavior. Now, in much the same way, new song “Come Alive” takes a cue from the band’s early years.

Led by frontwoman Nicole Yun’s cherubic croon and a steady hum of percussion, it’s a track that packs in heaps of life-affirming charm beneath its wispy, pastel surface, and one that wouldn’t feel out of place on Silver, their 2010 debut. In addition to Eternal Summers’ older material, Yun says “Come Alive” was inspired by some of her own female idols:

“‘Come Alive’ started as a series of hummed melodies recorded on my phone as I drove to Girls Rock camp where I was a counselor last summer. It was a long drive, and fairly early in the morning- the perfect situation for fresh ideas. I wanted to try to write a song based on vocal melody rather than a guitar riff or chord progression. This song was also inspired by some of my favorite women in music: Laetitia Sadier [of Stereolab], Trish Keenan [of Broadcast], and Björk, as well as a throwback to the cleaner pop of our earlier albums.” Listen in below.

Gold and Stone, the follow-up to last year’s Doug Gillard-produced The Drop Beneath, hits shelves on June 2nd through Kanine Records. For more, check out “Together or Alone”Pre-orders for the LP are ongoing.

In support, Eternal Summers will be touring the US for the next two months.
