Back in 2013, Ghostface Killah released his acclaimed comic book-based concept album, Twelve Reasons to Die. That record, which saw Ghostface portraying a fictionalized version of himself in a Spaghetti Western-style story, was produced and arranged by Los Angeles composer Adrian Younge. Now, the two have reunited for a sequel to their collaborative effort, appropriately dubbed Twelve Reasons to Die II.
Due out July 10th, the 13-track record continues the story of the resurrected Tony Starks (Ghostface) as he seeks revenge on the DeLuca crime family. On the newly released track “Return of the Savage”, which features Ghostface’s Wu-Tang Clan associates Raekwon and RZA, Ghostface finds himself called back to life in 1970s New York City, where he confronts a new gang leader moving in on DeLuca’s men, Lester Kane (Raekwon). Check it out below.
“Return of the Savage” can also be found on Younge’s Linear Labs: Los Angeles, a compilation containing collaborations with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Mohammed, Bilal, and Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier. That record is out tomorrow, May 19th, with pre-orders going on now.
Linear Labs has a vinyl package featuring the instrumentals of Twelve Reasons to Die I and II available for pre-order with a July 10th release date. The exact release date of the full part II is unknown, but will serve as the followup to Ghostface’s prior solo effort, 36 Seasons, as well as his recent collaborative LP with BadBadNotGood, Sour Soul.
