Girlpool premieres new song “Cherry Picking” — listen

on May 28, 2015, 9:45am

Next month marks the release of Before the World Was Big, the full-length debut from Philly lo-fi rockers Girlpool. The follow-up to last year’s self-titled EP spans 10 tracks and was produced by Kyle Gilbride of Swearin’. Already we’ve heard the bittersweet “Ideal World” and the rainbow colored title track; now, the rising duo of Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker has let loose “Cherry Picking”.

In the same vein as “Ideal World”, the latest track is brutally honest not only in its lyricism (“Did you ever think of me?”), but also in its musical execution. Tividad and Tucker’s harmonies are the very epitome of melancholy, their faded black and gloomy grey vocals painting a somber story. The minimal instrumentation, meanwhile, acts as more of a platform than an accompaniment, allowing for Girlpool’s words to hit that much harder. Listen in below.

Before the World Was Big arrives on June 2nd via Wichita Recordings.
