Tool tease new music from inside the studio

After eight years, Tool fans have learned not to get excited over news of a new studio album. However, after resolving a multi-year lawsuit, the band revealed they had ramped up work on the follow-up on 2006’s 10,000 Days. Based on a pair of Instagram posting from guitarist Adam Jones, it appears Tool are holding true to their word.

One posting features a photo of 10,000 Days engineer Joe Barresi behind a mixing board along with the caption *A little taste ~ Mixing a would be jam.” Even more exciting, the second posting features a brief video of Jones playing “strange strings,” possibly our first audio preview of the new LP.

According to Ultimate Guitar, Tool’s latest newsletter confirmed the band’s studio session with Barresi.

In an interview held in March, Jones revealed one album track was finished and 10 others in the works, most of which originated as jam sessions. “Some of it’s really heavy, some of it’s complex and some is more atmospheric, but it’s definitely Tool,” Jones explained. However, at that time, frontman Maynard James Keenan had yet to join the rest of his bandmates in studio.
