Duran Duran announces new album, Paper Gods, plus tour dates

on June 15, 2015, 10:25am

On September 18th, Duran Duran will release their new album, Paper Gods, via Warner Bros. Records. The New Wave veterans’ first LP since 2010’s All You Need Is Now marks their 14th to date. It was recorded in London and, as we noted in March, boasts a star-studded cast of collaborators, including former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, Janelle Monáe, Nile Rodgers, Mark Ronson, Kiesza, and Lindsay Lohan (yes, really), among others.

According to a press release, Paper Gods aims to “capture the duality and sense of conflict at the heart of Duran Duran’s music.” Bassist John Taylor elaborated, saying, “It really goes back to that strange early Duran mix: the hard-edged pop, coexisting with this dark, weird, experimental side.”

Keyboardist Nick Rhodes added, “That’s something that’s essential to all of us. It’s great to be able to lift people’s spirits — and your own — with a strong shot of pure pop, but the world we live in isn’t all just made of that stuff, so it seems natural to me that we have kept one foot in the darker, more Gothic side of life.”

Both Rodgers and Monáe are slated to appear on the album’s first official single, “Pressure Off”, which is due out later this week.

Additionally, Duran Duran has lined up new North American and European tour dates, including festival gigs and shows with Rodgers and Chic. The full itinerary is below.
