Idris Elba spits hot fire on remix of Skepta’s “Shutdown” — listen

on June 01, 2015, 1:30pm

Idris Elba is essentially the man. The Gold Globe winner can go from The Office to Thor to the voice of Shere Khan in a second’s notice, and who else could you imagine playing the first black James Bond? Dammit if he ain’t the handsomest devil around to boot. But the Luther star has a skill that’s largely been overshadowed by his screen success: rapping.

Yes, the British actor has long flirted with the world of hip-hop, releasing an EP in 2006, and even featuring on Jay Z’s American Gangster. Today, he returns to the mic on a remix of the Skepta track “Shutdown”. Elba adds his heavy vocals onto the first few bars of the track, and his rhymes are pretty fiery: “It’s okay ’cause I’m acting like I’m rappin’/ but I’m slappin’ my dick into them faces/ and them haters while I’m cashin’ in.” He even drops references to the Super Friends and Nelson Mandela in there. Take a listen below.
