Kendrick Lamar performs “The Blacker the Berry” and “King Kunta” live for first time — watch

A mini panic set in when Kendrick Lamar performed only one new song during his first two festival gigs of 2015. Does he not like To Pimp A Butterfly as much as the rest of the world? Why would Bonnaroo book him if they knew he’d do the same set as he did in 2013? Maybe he’s getting lazy?

The answer to those questions is a resounding no. While it’s unclear why K. Dot only played “Alright” during festival gigs at Sweetlife and Sasquatch!, he quickly made up for it last night by opening his Summer Jam set with the first-ever live performance of “The Blacker the Berry”. He also debuted “Hood Politics” and “King Kunta”.

The set also featured an appearance from ScHoolboy Q, who joined Kendrick for “Collard Greens” and “Studio”. Plus, SZA showed up to accompany him in “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”.
