Netflix, the unparalleled powerhouse in the streaming service industry, is testing advertisements before and after videos in some small markets with considerations ongoing to expand to all users.
While the prospect is sure to ruffle some feathers, don’t fret too much just yet. To start, the advertisements will strictly be for Netflix original content, which is essentially the exact thing HBO GO and some other streaming services have been doing all along.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Motherboard that no third party ads will be shown, only ads for Netflix shows like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Grace and Frankie.
The spokesperson also told Motherboard that “As with any Netflix product test, this may never come to all our members.” So you can continue watching marathons of Chopped and Samurai Jack free of interruption for now.
