Wilco launched the Solid Sound Festival in 2010, and unsurprisingly have headlined each edition. Beginning in 2011, they started playing two headlining sets, and in 2013, chose to make one of those sets “unique.” This year, they’ll be performing their first entirely acoustic set; in 2013, they played a set entirely of fan-requested covers.
Some of those covers included half-gags like ABBA’s “Waterloo” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, but there were plenty of serious requests too. In a clip from Every Other Year, a new documentary about the now-biennial festival, the band performs one such cover: “Cut Your Hair” by Pavement.
Jeff Tweedy and the boys didn’t give themselves too long to prepare the song, but the consummate professionals still completely nail it. They even toss in a ripping solo, and the audience is with them the whole time. The clip opens with a bit of behind-the-scenes footage, and you can check it out below.
