Le Butcherettes are set to return September 18th with their latest album, A Raw Youth, via Ipecac Recordings. Following lead single “They Fuck You Over”, NPR has our second listen of the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez-produced effort, “Shave the Pride”.

According to press for the track, the original title was “Pogonophobia”, meaning the fear of beards. That’s because the song originated from Teri Gender Bender’s frustration at a lover who hid behind the “masses of hair” that made up his beard. However, the song eventually changed until “the outrage and frustration are this time directed in particular to Society’s ‘beard,'” Teri told NPR. “The beard symbolizes our unwillingness to view all perceptions of [a] story … hiding behind the mass media.”

The societal harangue comes over pummeling drums amid some furious guitar work that all curdles together in a mass of frustrated force. It’s a bundle of heavy punk delivered with the Butcherettes’ trademark fury, and you can listen in below.

The band also revealed the A Raw Youth artwork, which you can peep below ahead of the tracklist. Due September 18th, the LP features guest appearances by Iggy Pop and John Frusciante. Ahead of the 12-track effort’s release, the band will tour alongside the Melvins; find those dates here.
