Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams fight the Catholic Church in Spotlight trailer — watch

on July 29, 2015, 12:59pm

A-listers and harsh truths collide in the new trailer for Thomas McCarthy’s upcoming true story drama Spotlight. Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams star as three bold reporters tasked as The Boston Globe’s “Spotlight Team” to uncover a child abuse scandal involving the local Catholic Archdiocese. Their tragic story would eventually force Cardinal Bernard Law to resign and win the team the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2003.

Also on board is a strong supporting cast that includes Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, Billy Crudup, Jamey Sheridan, and Len Cariou. McCarthy, whose last effort was this year’s ill-fated Adam Sandler dramedy The Cobbler, certainly looks to be making a proper return to his more critical fare a la The Visitor or The Station Agent. Granted, it should help that he had The West Wing scribe Josh Singer for the assist in the writing room this time around.

Watch below.

Spotlight will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August and officially hit theaters November 6th via Sony.
