Psycho and It Follows swap scores in experimental video — watch

on July 21, 2015, 9:45am

A good score is paramount to a good horror movie. So many of film’s most iconic musical cues come from horror films, like JawsHalloweenAlien, and Suspiria. A new video, edited together by Vimeo user House by the Video Store, highlights the importance of a great horror score by switching the music from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows. Surprisingly, the synth-y It Follows score adds a heavy dose of impending doom to Hitchcock’s film, while Bernard Herrmann’s decidedly less gloomy score for Psycho magnifies the feeling of innocence lost that carries the 2015 horror hit.

It Follows only came out a few months ago, but I’d bet my bottom dollar that at the end of this decade it’ll be the best recent horror film we look back on. Disasterpeace’s score is a big factor in the film’s success, and while everyone knows Psycho is an all time great, this video breathes new life into it. If it weren’t for Gus Van Sant’s regrettable remake, this video would probably convince some executives to reboot the film again.
