Watch Judy Greer as a sex addict-cum-accidental murderer in trailer for Addicted to Fresno

on July 21, 2015, 2:30pm

Folks have long been clamoring for Judy Greer to be given the breakout lead role she deserves. Sure, she featured in no fewer than three summer blockbusters (Jurassic WorldAnt-Manand Tomorrowland… okay, two summer blockbusters and a Disney movie), but those were bit parts that failed to highlight Greer’s true comedic potential. Hopefully this will finally change with the dark indie comedy Addicted to Fresno, for which the trailer just debuted.

The film, which premiered earlier this year at South by Southwest, sees Greer star as Shannon, a sex addict who just lost her teaching job because, as she puts it, she “fucked a bunch of people.” She moves back to Fresno with her sister Martha (Natasha Lyonne) and starts working with her as a hotel housekeeper. When Shannon accidentally murders a hotel guest, however, the pair are sent on a series of dangerous, raunchy, and hilarious hijinks. Along the way, they cross paths with characters played by Fred Armisen, Molly Shannon, Ron Livingston, Jessica St. Clair, Malcolm Barrett, Clea DuVall and Aubrey Plaza.

Addicted to Fresno will be available on video on demand services come September 1st, with a limited theatrical release beginning October 2nd. Below, read the official synopsis.

“Martha (Natasha Lyonne) is an overly optimistic housekeeper working at a local hotel in Fresno, California. Her sister Shannon (Judy Greer) is a sex addict that was recently forced to go into rehab after her addiction caused her to lose her job. As she now needs gainful employment, Shannon allows Martha to talk her into working at the hotel as well. However soon after she begins work Shannon accidentally kills one of the hotel’s guests and convinces Martha to help her dispose of the body. This is easier said than done, as their attempts result in pet cemetery owners Ruby (Allison Tolman) and Gerald (Fred Armisen) blackmailing them for hush money. Without any other options, Martha and Shannon must now commit a series of robberies to come up with the money.”
