Between the reunions, hoverboards, and endless airings on AMC — not to mention, our own Future Week back in July — it’s impossible to escape the Back to the Future trilogy in 2015. Come October, however, things will get pretty heavy: Not only will the original trilogy hit theaters again for a special re-release, but now there’s a brand new documentary to go with it.
Directed by Jason Aron, the Kickstarter-funded Back in Time stuffs Mr. Fusion with plenty of nuclear garbage and hits 88 mph to turn the clock back on the original trilogy for one more retrospective. Director Robert Zemeckis, screenwriter Bob Gale, and producer Steven Spielberg revisit their own magic tricks alongside Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson.
Co-stars Huey Lewis, James Tolkan, and Claudia Wells are also featured, and the film even explores Secret Cinema’s recent fan event in London, in which they recreated all of the fictional Hill Valley, California for a month of screenings. Also, rest assured, there will be a section devoted solely to Marty’s trusty hoverboard.
Back in Time will be distributed by Gravitas, who will release the film in select theaters, VOD, and DVD/Blu-Ray on October 21st, 2015. You know, the date McFly goes into the future? … Hello? Anybody home? But if you buttheads can’t wait until fall, hit up your local library and buy Caseen Gaines’ new book, We Don’t Need Roads.
Then make like a tree and get outta here.
