Spencer Radcliffe is a man who wears many hats. He’s excelled in multiple genres, having put out a few top notch emo and ambient projects under names like California Furniture and Blithe Field. Now, he’s conquering lo-fi rock under his government given moniker. The Chicago musician’s debut LP, Looking In, is set to be released by Boston’s Run for Cover Records on October 2nd, and he’s shared new single “Yankee” to build anticipation.
The track is a slow burner for sure, chugging along with semi-sparse drums and Radcliffe’s melancholic vocals. There are some elements reminiscent of Alex G and Elvis Depressedly, which makes sense considering the friendships shared by all of these musicians. With Radcliffe hailing from Chicago, Alex G calling Philadelphia home, and Elvis Depressedly located in Ashville, NC, it’s very exciting to watch a new class in the lo-fi scene sprout up around the country and support each other so fervently.
