The New Tarot premieres manic new song “Stella” — listen

Many musicians can be found playing within the winding hallways and stations of New York City’s subway system. However, not all are able to make the leap and find a following above ground. Consider the existence of Brooklyn alt rockers The New Tarot a rare story of success and good fortune.

Back in spring 2014, vocalist/guitarist Monika was performing by Union Square’s subway station when she happened to catch the ear of a random passerby. That man, so impressed by her “use of verbiage and poetry,” soon became her manager and convinced Monika’s sister Karen to set aside her studies and pursue a career in music as well. Months later, the two-piece was officially christened The New Tarot with the release of its self-titled debut EP. According to a press release, the sisters are known for creating “archetypes throughout their music and their stories are filled with chaos, harmony and the concept of space within ourselves and the universe.”

As to be expected, underground stages have become something of the past for The New Tarot. Despite only forming just a year ago, they’ve performed for crowds at venues such as Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, and Bitter End. Part of their evolution, too, includes constantly working on new music; they’ve got a sophomore EP in the pipeline for later this summer.

The New Tarot teased the project not too long with a dreamy single called “Memory Kills”. Today, they’ve broken off another piece with the manic “Stella”. Telling the story of a slightly unhinged chronic “keeper of all things”, the track sounds like a bundle of feral, hyperactive tentacles let loose for the first time. Listen in below.
