Damon Albarn contributed to Adele’s new album, but says “it’s very middle of the road”

Adele’s highly-anticipated follow-up to 21 remains unreleased, and perhaps for a good reason. In a new interview with UK’s The Sun (via SPIN), Blur/Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn revealed that he’s heard some of finished material and describes it as “very middle of the road.”

Albarn told The Sun that he actually collaborated with Adele on the as-yet-untitled LP, though is unsure whether his contributions will make it onto the final product.

“Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her,” Albarn explained. “And I’m not a producer, so… I don’t know what is happening really. Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so. Let’s wait and see. The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young.”

Along with Albarn, Adele is said to have collaborated with producer Danger Mouse, Max Martin, and Tobias Jesso Jr. Phil Collins also planned on being involved, but Adele forgot to call him back.

According to Billboard, the album should see release in November, though based on Albarn’s comments, another delay could be in order.
