Unless Rick Moranis steps out of retirement (or there’s room for William Atherton), it would appear that Paul Feig has officially managed to rope in the entire original cast of Ghostbusters for his all-female led reboot due out next summer.
This morning, the director announced on Twitter that Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Peter Venkman’s love interest Dana Barrett in both films, will appear in the film:
Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I'll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!— Paul Feig (@paulfeig) September 25, 2015
The news comes just days after both Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts confirmed their appearances. Tagged with the previous commitments of Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, today’s news seals the day. Sadly, they likely won’t be playing any of their original characters. Bummer.
Ghostbusters is set to open on July 15th, 2016. Starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as the team’s receptionist, Andy Garcia as New York City’s Mayor, and Neil Casey as the main villain, along with Matt Walsh, Michael K. Williams, and Cecily Strong.
