They say that when one door closes, another opens. That couldn’t be truer for PHASES, a rising electropop outfit seemingly born from the ashes of various other projects.

Leading the quartet are veteran musicians Alex Greenwald, known for his time in Phantom Planet, and Jason Boesel, formerly of Rilo Kiley and Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band; they’re rounded out by Z Berg (The Like) and Michael Runion. This isn’t the first time the four have teamed up, either —  together, the group has undergone an evolutionary process of its own, having released an LP under the JJAMZ moniker back in 2012.

Greenwald & co. are set to officially enter a new chapter in their musical careers with For Life, their full-length debut as PHASES. Due out on September 18th via Warner Bros. Records, the album thus far has been previewed with “Betty Blue”, “I’m In Love With My Life”, and “Cooler”, much-touted singles that have earned stamps of approval from the likes of Sia and Mark Ronson.

As another taste of what’s to come, today the band has let loose “Spark”, a mesmerizing number whose tender sway and glowing synths evoke an air of slow-burning romance. “We wrote this song for the prom at the end of time,” PHASES tell Consequence of Sound of the track. Listen in below.
