On September 25th, Kurt Vile will release his new album, b’lieve i’m goin down…, through Matador Records. In anticipation, the LP is streaming in its entirety below via Minneapolis radio station The Current.
The 12-track effort follows 2013’s excellent Wakin on a Pretty Daze and was recorded in studios in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Athens. The Violators leader even spent time at Joshua Tree’s Rancho de la Luna, the famed desert studio used by the Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, and Queens of the Stone Age, where he recorded what he considers his “best song ever,” “Wheelhouse”. His Rancho de la Luna session also included time spent jamming with Mali blues rock collective Tinariwen and Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa.
“I think if you listen to the record, all the songs have a night vibe. I’ve always been a night person. It’s usually when I write music. During the day, everyone’s waiting on you to deliver, and I have nervous energy, and I also feel like I’m tired during the day. So once it gets dark, I’m wide awake, and those are the hours we work too. I guess I’ve always been a night person, but maybe with this record it reached an extreme because we didn’t have an official producer with us being like, “Dude, we can’t go until seven in the morning!” It’s like a domino effect – you have to sleep in later and later, and next thing you know, you’re up later and later.”
Pre-orders for the album are ongoing.
