Adele confirms new album is titled 25, first single coming next week

on October 21, 2015, 1:55pm

Adele has confirmed 25 as the title of her next studio album. The news was revealed in an open letter from the pop singer, which was posted on her Twitter and Facebook accounts earlier today. Lengthy and honest, the message also offered an unfettered glimpse into some of the forthcoming LP’s themes, as well as what’s shaped Adele’s emotional state this time around.

“My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record,” she writes. “I’m making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven’t got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. What’s done is done.”

She adds, “Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, I made the decision to go into becoming who I’m going to be forever without a removal van full of my old junk. I miss everything about my past, the good and the bad, but only because it won’t come back. When I was in it I wanted out! So typical.”

The “Rolling in the Deep” singer closes the letter by saying, “25 is about getting to know who I’ve become without realising. And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened.”

The highly anticipated 25, which comes four years after the stellar 21, is rumored to drop sometime in November through XL Recordings. It reportedly features contributions from super-producers Danger Mouse and Max Martin, as well as Tobias Jesso Jr. and (a not so enthused) Damon Albarn.

BBC Radio 1 is expected to premiere the album’s first single on Friday, October 30th; some suspect the as-yet-untitled track is the same one featured in a mysterious commercial that aired in the UK last week. Watch that below.

Update: The lead single, “Hello”, will actually arrive October 23rd.
