It’s been 1,738 days since Adele released her sophomore studio album, 21. Now, nearly five years later, the UK pop sensation finally returns with its follow-up. 25 arrives officially on November 20th, but today Adele has shared the album’s lead single, “Hello”, along with a music video created by Canadian director Xavier Dolan.
Adele has described 25 as a make-up record, and those themes are certainly evident on “Hello”. The song is reportedly about rekindling with her estranged father. As such, Adele’s vocals run a gamut of emotions. “Hello, it’s me/ I was wondering if after all these years/ You’d like to meet, to go over everything/ They say that time’s supposed to heal ya/ But I ain’t done much healing,” she gently croons. Ultimately, the single explodes into its soaring chorus, and with that, Top 40 radio just waved the white flag and bowed down, once again, to Adele.
