Andy Kaufman and Redd Foxx holograms to tour next year

Holograms of late iconic musicians have been all the rage lately, with tech companies promising Whitney Houston and Selena holograms in the near future, complete with tour itineraries. Heck, a Michael Jackson hologram pretty much stole the show at last year’s Billboard Music Awards.

Now, that same advanced technology is ready to invade the stand-up comedy market. Hologram USA, the company behind holograms for Houston and Billie Holiday, is developing holograms of legendary comedians Andy Kaufman and Redd Foxx.

Both are set to go on tour next year, according to Hologram USA founder Alki David, with each hologram setting up “residencies in multiple locations in tourist-oriented cities across the country.” These “performances” would include classic material from each comedian, as well as “biographical elements,” such as Foxx’s associations with Malcolm X in the 1940s.

“Who knew that the persistent rumors that Andy Kaufman would return from death would come true,” David told the New York Times. “We have the opportunity to resurrect him and present his genius with the same vitality and joy that his first audiences experienced 40 years ago. As for our other debut comedy hologram legend: Redd Foxx is a hero who helped change the game not just in comedy, but in how Americans talk about race and sex.”

Previously, Hologram USA presented a comedy club-like show featuring mini hologram sets from George Carlin, Bob Hope, and Lucille Ball.
