Are you having a laugh? Ricky Gervais returning to host 73rd Golden Globes

on October 26, 2015, 11:28pm

Remember that time Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes in 2012 and was scorned by critics and the Hollywood Foreign Press? Perhaps you’ll also remember when the acclaimed writer, actor, and producer spit back at them in his online blog, writing: “Thank fuck that’s over. I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It’s like a parachute jump.”

Well, it would appear we have a daredevil on our hands, as Gervais is back and will host the awards ceremony for a fourth time. What’s more, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt says he’s “excited,” adding in a statement: “Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor – and send up – the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seat belts.”

Rest assured, every celebrity will be buckled in, especially if the proceedings stay as boozy as they traditionally do at the laid-back ceremony. Gervais will step in for both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who enjoyed a three-year stint from 2013 to 2015. Given that their collabo-comedy Sisters is out December, they must be either too busy with press or uninterested in easy publicity.

Mark your calendars, cinephiles: Nominations for the 73rd annual Golden Globes hit the streets December 10th and the whole shebang goes down Sunday, January 10th on NBC.

For a teaser, here’s Gevais’ controversial opening monologue from 2012:
