Cass McCombs announces rarities collection, shares “Evangeline” — listen

on October 13, 2015, 1:55pm

Alt country singer-songwriter Cass McCombs has released seven albums in his decade-long career, but that’s not the whole story. On December 11th, he’ll reveal the space between those records with a rarities and B-sides collection called A Folk Set Apart: Rarities, B-Sides & Space Junk, Etc., coming via Domino Records.

The 19-track collection contains five never-before released songs alongside rare cuts from small international labels and show-exclusive 7-inches, all recorded between 2003 and 2014. Many of the tracks feature McCombs performing with collaborators like Phish’s Mike Gordon (“Texas”), Deerhoof’s Chris Cohen (“Poet’s Day”, “An Other”), Ligament’s Tim Cedar (“Twins”), and Tim Dewit and Dutch E. Germ (“A.Y.D.”). Further’s Joe Russo appears on both “Night of the World” and “Evangeline”, both of which comes from tour-only split singles McCombs did with Meat Puppets.

To preview A Folk Set Apart, McCombs has made “Evangeline” available for early streaming. The song is a dreamy, jaunty number made for daydreaming about some pedestaled form. Take a listen below, followed by the full A Folk Set Apart tracklist.
