Marty McFly isn’t the only lucky guy to wear self-lacing Air MAGS.
Nike has long promised to make every Back to the Future fan’s a reality by releasing a real-life version of the shoe. Today, in celebration of Back to the Future Day, aka the exact date that Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown visited Hill Valley 2015 in Back to the Future, Part II, the company sent over the very first pair to star Michael J. Fox, who tweeted:
Fox also shared an incredibly creative and heartfelt letter by Nike innovation chief Tinker Hatfield, who revealed Nike plans to release “more pairs for support in aid of the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2016.”
Back in 2011, Nike released a limited quantity of non-self-lacing Air MAGS through a curated auction in which all proceeds went on to fund Parkinson’s disease research by the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Many went for tens of thousands of dollars.
In other words, it won’t cost you your future, but it’ll certainly put a dent in your life’s savings. With that in mind, it might behoove you to either a.) build a time machine and find a Gray’s Sports Almanac or b.) beg your ol’ dad, dad, daddy-o.
As you might expect, it’s been a busy day of Back to the Future news: Doc Brown released a special message; Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson reunited for an interview; Reston, Virginia temporarily renamed itself to Hill Valley; and Fox and Lloyd appeared together in a commercial for Toyota.
