Grimes’ new album is called Art Angels, features a song about Al Pacino as transgender vampire

Grimes has confirmed details of her highly-anticipated fourth album. It’s titled Art Angels, and features the above artwork as its cover, designed by Claire Boucher herself. The first single and music video will arrive next week.

Boucher previously said the album would receive a surprise release on iTunes.

Meanwhile, in a new interview with Q, Boucher revealed some of the album’s “bro-art” influences, citing Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and The Godfather in particular.

One song on the album, called “Kill V Maim”, is written from the perspective of Al Pacino in The Godfather Pt 2. “Except he’s a vampire who can switch gender and travel through space,” she explained to Q.

Elsewhere on the album, according to an interview with Dazed and Confused, is a song “from the perspective of a butterfly in the Amazon as people are cutting down trees; there’s a song that’s from the perspective of angels who are polluted, so they’re crying polluted tears.”

Art Angels serves as the follow-up to Grimes’ 2012 breakout album, Visions. In support of the release, she recently announced the Rhinestone Cowgirls Tour. Dates below.
