GWAR’s monster members are masters when it comes to AV Club’s Undercover series. In the past, they’ve unleashed a ferocious version of Kansas’ “Carry On My Wayward Son”, flipped Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” into a sludge punk face-melter, and injected Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls” with a blitzing bite.
For their fourth appearance on the web series, they’ve opted to go all-in on the 1984 Cyndi Lauper single “She Bop”. Though it’s yet another unlikely selection from GWAR, the results are in line with the heavy metal outfit’s signature aesthetic: savage, rip-roaring, and bloody fun. If Lauper reimagined for the metal crowd wasn’t enough, GWAR also closed its performance by slipping in a killer rendition of “Blitzkrieg Bop” by The Ramones.
