Noomi Rapace buckles up for Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari

on October 27, 2015, 5:46pm

Next year, Noomi Rapace looks set to join the ranks of Marion Cotillard (Public Enemies), Amy Brennenman (Heat), Jada Pinkett Smith (Ali, Collateral), Diane Venora (Heat, The Insider), Tuesday Weld (Thief), Tang Wei (Blackhat), Kim Greist (Manhunter), Madeleine Stowe (The Last of the Mohicans), and Gong Li (Miami Vice), all supporting female roles in the male-driven filmography of Michael Mann.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Swedish actress has signed on to star in the Chicago filmmaker’s next film: his long-gestating biopic about Enzo Ferrari starring Christian Bale. Based on Brock Yates’ 1991 book, Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the film will take place in the ’50s and follow the iconic car company’s manufacturer in his quest for success and love. Rapace is in talks to play his wife, Laura Dominica.

Paramount Pictures has picked up distribution rights for the $80 million-budgeted project, which Mann has been revving up for nearly 15 years. It would appear that the key finally seems to be turning as shooting begins next summer from a script written by Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job) and David Rayfield (Out of Africa). Here’s hoping this proves remarkably better than this year’s underwhelming cyberthriller, Blackhat.
