Westerns are hard to come by in Hollywood today, but Jane Got A Gun was simply hard to make.
Produced by Natalie Portman, the film was originally going to star Michael Fassbender, who dropped out after reportedly clashing with the actress’ handpicked director, Lynne Ramsay. Eventually, Ramsay was replaced by Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor, who cycled through a handful of leading men, from Jude Law to Bradley Cooper, before nabbing Ewan McGregor.
Which makes Jane Got A Gun a nice little Star Wars reunion for Portman and McGregor. The two play bitter enemies in this rare female-led Western, in which the former Amidala must protect her outlaw husband (Noah Emmerich) with the help of her ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) against a mustachioed Obi-Wan and his gang of misfits. Confused? Sorry.
