President Barack Obama appeared today at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco featuring a performance from Kanye West. Before Yeezy took the stage however, the president offered the fellow Chicago native a few words of advice on his potential 2020 presidential run.
“Couldn’t get any stranger, but in case Kanye’s serious about this whole POTUS thing – or as he calls it, ‘Peezy’ – I do have some advice for him. There’s some stuff I picked up along the way.”
“First of all, you got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show,” Obama quipped, in reference to Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “Second important tip: Saying that you have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy? That’s what’s known as off-message in politics. You can’t say something like that. A lot of people have lost their congressional seats say things like that.”
“And number three: Do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be president? That’s cray.”
Kanye would later take the stage and entertain the current president with an 18-song set of greatest hits, including more aggressive tracks like “Don’t Like”, “All Day”, and “Black Skinhead”. At one point he even performed in the audience. Several attendees streamed the performance on Periscope; watch here and here. Also check out some photos below.
