It looks like Sony may be drawing up more plans for Ghostbusters. The Hollywood Reporter has word that there are discussions underway to bring the proton pack blasting poltergeist pulverizers to the big screen in an animated film.
Though Sony had no comment on the project, it’s expected that Ivan Reitman and Dan Akyroyd will produce under their recently launched Ghost Corps banner. Details are slim beyond “discussions are being had,” so it’s unknown how this movie might fit into the larger Ghostbusters universe. According to the THR report, that universe could still include a Channing Tatum-led, Russo brothers-directed film, despite that iteration largely being stalled since the summer. This would all be in addition to Paul Feig’s female-led reboot, which recently wrapped filming in Boston with cameos from most of the original film’s cast.
Ghostbusters spawned a pair of animated TV shows, with the beloved and Emmy-nominated The Real Ghostbusters running from 1986-1991 and its sequel series, Extreme Ghostbusters, airing for just one season in 1997. This isn’t the only property Sony is attempting to turn into a cartoon movie, either. Back in April, the company announced that an animated Spider-Man movie would be coming in 2017.
