With 59 days to go until Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters in the US, Disney and LucasFilm have unleashed another exciting preview that for the first time reveals some real insight into the new story.
The trailer establishes the characters of Rey and Finn, the former a poor desert planet dweller exploring ruins of the old days, the latter a Tie pilot who has lost his way. We also get to hear Kylo Ren’s voice for the first time, and learn exactly who he’s meeting in those snowy woods when he ignites his hilted lightsaber. We also get some of the main villain’s motivation, as he looks upon a very familiar helmet and says, “Nothing will stand in our way. I will finish what you started.”
Princess Leia also makes an appearance, looking distraught as fighters prepare for battle. What’s more, it appears the adventures of the original trilogy have become myth and legend, and it looks to be Han Solo himself that unveils the secrets of the Jedi to the new generation. In voiceover, a female voice tells one of the characters, “The Force, it’s calling to you. Just let it in.” And the chills set in.
Tonight also marks the first chance fans can purchase tickets to midnight screenings of The Force Awakens, as well as marathon showings of all seven movies in the franchise. See participating theaters here.
