Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus and Marc Maron are two men who love to shoot the shit, unabated by the typical norms of conversation. They proved to be epic raconteurs when they last chatted it up on Maron’s WTF Podcast, and Stickles returned again for the most recent episode. This time through, they discussed such topics as Keith Richard’s bad influences and his daughter’s potential love for Titus, Stickles’ attitude towards VIPs, and his general approach to live performances. Of course, they also touched upon Titus’ recent rock opera, The Most Lamentable Tragedy, including how it reflects Stickles’ personal journey and why there’s a speed change on the vinyl version.
Stickles’ return to WTF came about as his band’s label home, Merge Records, sponsored the episode. As such, he wasn’t the only artist to sit down with Maron, as Mikal Cronin also stopped by the garage. The Bay Area rocker talked about his upbringing (both familiarly and musically), his relationship and oftentimes partnership with Ty Segall, and his old desire to start a band called Nirvana 2.
Check out both conversations over at the WTF Podcast site.
In related news, Titus Andronicus have shared the video for “No Future Part IV: No Future Triumphant”. Shot in the style of a low-budget hip-hop video, the clip sees Stickles yelling the lyrics at a low-angled camera, waving his hands about in random emphasis. He mugs atop an SUV, in a tagged-up room, and in front of a mural of Notorious B.I.G. and the twin towers. There’s also some joint smoking and live footage cut throughout. Take a look below.
