Last week brought Will Smith’s return to rap after a decade, as the Fresh Prince jumped aboard a remix of Bomba Estéreo’s “Fiesta”. In a new interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1 Radio, Smith revealed that “Fiesta” is just the first of many new tracks on the way. Better yet, he has plans for a full-fledged tour.
In between shoots for the Suicide Squad movie, Smith said he’s spent nearly every day in the studio, resulting in upwards of 30 tracks recorded. Of those, “I have six or seven that I really like,” he added.
Even still, Smith has yet to find his creative groove. “I have so many things I want to say, and I’m struggling to say them in a way that fit the flavor of music I tend to like,” the 47-year-old rapper-turned actor explained. “I’m from the era where it’s 16 bars and hook, 16 bars and hook, bridge, hook, and out.”
Smith added that he’s working with several different collaborators, both young and old, but failed to mention any names.
What he did reveal, however, are plans for an extensive summer tour alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff. Smith said it will be the largest outing of his career.
On the film front, Smith confirmed his participation in Bad Boys 3, which could surface in the next 12 to 16 months.
