Minneapolis rhymester Astronautalis hasn’t exactly been quiet since releasing his last album, This Is Our Science, back in 2011. He’s teamed up with everyone from Justin Vernon to Bird Peterson, but it’s been a solid minute since we’ve heard something from a new solo album. There was an outtake from the yet-untitled album, “Papillon”, released back in May, but that doesn’t quite count. Today, Astronautalis has finally broken the silence on his next release by sharing a new track dubbed “Sike!”.
“Sike!” gives a hint as to perhaps why “Papillon” ended up being cut from the record, as the track bangs quite a bit harder than what we’ve heard from Astronautalis in the past. Featuring a beat by St. Vincent’s keyboardist Adam Pickrell and horns from Bon Iver’s Reggie Pace, it thumps loud on the back of horn blasts as much as bass rumbles. Boswell lets everyone listening know that just because he’s been away for a few and has now signed on with a punk label in Side One Dummy Records, it doesn’t mean he’s not still king of the indie rap game. “Lazy motherfuckers wanna call it luck,” he spits, “But real motherfuckers know there ain’t no such/ Thing, as I mean there ain’t no free lunch/ You better fix your own plate or serve one to us.”

Astronautalis’ new album is expected next year, while a “Sike!” digital single will be released on November 20th.
