Carrie Brownstein has been making her way across the US on a book tour behind her new memoir, the excellent Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl. However, last night’s reading in Pasadena, California’s Central Presbyterian Church became so much more than just a literary event.
As the Wall Street Journal reports, the Portlandia star and Sleater-Kinney rocker ended up officiating an impromptu wedding for two fans in attendance. She was assisted by the evening’s special co-host, Amy Poehler, who offered up flowers and even a run-through of “Greensleeves” on the church piano.

“All of us here are rooting for you,” Brownstein, a licensed wedding officiant, reportedly told the couple. “In the way that we always root for ourselves, in the way that we root for love to always win out over despair, for hope to win out over fear, for joy to win out over sorrow, we root for you in those ways … We root for the two of you to make each other feel the biggest, strongest, most special you ever felt.”
