Erykah Badu details But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape, out on Friday

on November 25, 2015, 11:51am

Erykah Badu has revealed the full details of her forthcoming mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone. Spanning 11 tracks, it’ll hit iTunes and Apple Music on November 27th, with expansion to all retailers and streaming services set for December 4th.

The mixtape’s title is a reference to Badu’s classic “Tyrone”, while each of its tracks is about telephones in some way, specifically “our own reliance on staying inter-connected.” The previously released “Phone Down” and Badu’s “Hotline Bling” remix, here renamed once again as “Cell U Lar Device”, are both featured on the tape.

Badu worked closely with producer Zach Witnessin on the collection in her hometown of Dallas, Texas. Over a 12-day period, she welcomed a number of surprise guests into her bedroom studio to help create a new genre blend she has dubbed TRap & B. According to a press release, Badu and Witnessin focused on creating “sympathetic vibrations” between the music’s frequency and vibration, even utilizing a tuning fork and Tibetan singing bowls to find the precise wavelengths. The goal was to create “a sound that brings peace and tranquility to its listener.”

Though the special guests haven’t been revealed, you can find the complete tracklist below.
