Iron & Wine put a folk spin on GWAR’s “Sick of You” — watch

Thanks to the ongoing AV Undercover series, we’ve seen some of our favorite acts try their hands at some of the most unlikely songs. Natalie Prass flipped a Slayer standard into a jazzy lounger; Screaming Females made Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” sound like a punk anthem; and They Might Be Giants went full ’90s R&B with an unexpected take on Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills”.

This week’s installment is no different, as Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam puts his spin on — of all things — GWAR’s “Sick of You”. Bloody monsters and thrash metal aren’t really known to coexist with soft-spoken folk, yet somehow Beam’s take on the Scumdogs of the Universe track sounds like something that would naturally appear in his own repertoire.

Iron & Wine is no stranger to the covers game. This year, Beam and Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell teamed up for a covers album called Sing Into My Mouth. The same can be said regarding GWAR, who previously covered Kansas, Billy Ocean, Pet Shop Boys, and Cyndi Lauper for AV Undercover.
