In the midst of celebrating their 20th anniversary, Mogwai have announced the departure of guitarist John Cummings. The Scottish post-rock outfit revealed the news via a post on their website saying Cummings has decided to focus on personal projects for the foreseeable future.
Here’s the complete statement from the band:
“We are sad to announce that John Cummings has decided to leave Mogwai to pursue his own musical projects.
We will continue as a four piece of Dominic Aitchison, Stuart Braithwaite, Martin Bulloch and Barry Burns and shall be joined on our upcoming live shows by Scott Paterson and Luke Sutherland.
We wish John all the best with the future.”
Cummings joined Mogwai shortly after they were formed, becoming the fourth member of the group. Over the summer, the band commemorated their 20th year together by the Central Belters box set of hits and rarities. While they’ll continue on as a quartet, guitarist/vocalist Braithwaite also recently launched a side project with members of Slowdive and Editors called Minor Victories.
