In a bout of late night ranting back in March, Pinback frontman Rob Crow said he was done with music. “… I think I’m gonna finish up & release all my current records & give up,” he tweeted at the time, citing mental anguish, financial struggles, and family needs. But as a new Facebook post reveals, the acclaimed indie rocker has since gotten himself back on track. A loan adjustment prevented his home’s foreclosure, he quit drinking, lost over 100 pounds, and his wife finally got her dream job to help the family out financially. And now Crow is back with a new band, new music, and an upcoming tour.

Dubbed Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place, the project will release Crow’s “first full band studio album of ‘solo’ material,” You’re Doomed. Be Nice., on March 4th via Temporary Residence. As a sample of the newly revitalized Crow, he’s shared the LP’s lead single, “Business Interrupts”. Over a bouncy bit of prog pop, it’s hard not to hear the confessionals in the lyrics after witnessing Crow’s public withdrawal. “Ain’t it real?/ Ain’t it fine?/ Must I ask you all the time/ How much anybody worth?/ What is anybody worth?” he asks in bridge before a wordless, undeniable hook. Out of what appears to be one of the hardest, lowest moments of Crow’s life may have come his most accessible, dynamic work yet. Take a listen below.

At the end of his most recent post, Crow wrote, “My hope is that it will resonate with some and be found a comfort. If people buy it, I can make more. We will tour the states in March. If people go to the shows, I can play more of them. At least I will have given it a shot.” Crow’s definitely giving it a shot, and so far it seems to be a good one.
