Sia has thus far shared two tracks off her forthcoming album This is Acting, and they both followed a similar thematic path of self-empowerment. “Alive” is all about overcoming adversity and being better for it at the end, while “Bird Set Free” champions self-confidence and finding the strength to be yourself. The latest sampling from the record, however, takes the more classic love song route, but of course done with the Aussie songstress’ dramatic flair.
“One Million Bullets” starts as a slow burn of synthetic beats, building up as Sia’s cracking, stuttering vocals layer on top of each other. They climb higher and higher until they reach the invigorating chorus where she promises her lover, “Under the moonlight/ Under your moonlit gaze/ I know that I’d take one million bullets, babe.” Sure, your significant other said they’d take a shot for you, but Sia’s willing to take on an entire freakin’ army. Now that’s love, folks.
