on December 20, 2015, 11:56am

With everyone back in town for the holidays, Saturday Night Live’s annual Christmas episode often includes a few surprise guests, and Sir Paul McCartney is usually among them. In 2012, Macca teamed with the surviving members of Nirvana for a special collaborative performance, only to return a year later for a surprise appearance during Jimmy Fallon’s opening monologue. McCartney was again on hand last night, joining Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town”.

Springsteen and the E Street Band also supported their newly released box set, The Ties That Bind: The River Collection, by performing “The Ties That Bind” and “Meet Me in the City”. The latter is a previously unreleased track that appears on the box set.

Replay the three performances below. Update – Sunday, December 20th at 10:45 p.m. CT: SNL has shared the full unedited performance of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”.
