Cate Blanchett is an Oscar winner, a recent Golden Globe nominee for her starring role in Carol, and now.. an Asgardian? It could soon be so, as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Blanchett is in final negotiations with Marvel to join Thor: Ragnarok.
It’s unknown yet what role Blanchett might play in the third Thor outing, though THR has it from sources that “bad-ass female” was on Marvel’s to-do list. There are plenty of those in the Thor legacy, like the manipulative Enchantress, the warrior Valkyrie, or even the the goddess of Hel herself, Hela.
Marvel just last week announced that newcomer Stephany Folsom had been hired to rework the script penned by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows) has been tapped to direct the November 3rd, 2017 release, which will see Chris Hemsworth’s Thor team up with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Exactly what they’ll be teaming up against is under wraps, but with a title like Ragnarok, it’s clearly gonna be a world-ending type of threat.
