English singer-songwriter and pop-culture juggernaut Adele is known for her vocal acrobatics, but she might have met her match in Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez. In a video that premiered today on Team Coco, Sanchez covers Adele’s “Hello”, the lead single from her record-shattering third studio album, 25. It’s a haunting acoustic rendition that strips down the original to its bare essentials.
In a personal message that accompanied the premiere, Sanchez explained that the cover was “For my mother, who told me the new Coheed record is just as good, if not better, than the new Adele.” Hear that, Adele? That is the sound of some extremely polite shots being fired.

Coheed and Cambria’s latest album, The Color Before The Sun, was released in October. Adele’s 25 continues to shatter records worldwide as the artist gears up for a 56-date North American tour in 2016.
