To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Dinosaur Jr. have spent the last week holed up at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. The first five shows of the seven-night residency saw a variety of surprise guests join the band on stage, including Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo, Jeff Tweedy, Henry Rollins, Bob Mould, and Fred Armisen. Last night, however, brought the biggest star power yet, as My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, Mike Watt, Sharon Van Etten, and Kurt Vile all made appearances.
Shields joined Dino Jr. for a cover of MBV’s “Torn”, Watt sat in for The Stooges’ “Fun House”, Van Etten guested for “Get Me”, and Vile appeared for “Crumble”. What’s more, Shields and Vile also in for the show’s encore performance of Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s “Cortez the Killer”.
