Have Vampire Weekend begun work on a new album?

on December 11, 2015, 4:10pm

Earlier in the year, Ezra Koenig was quoted as saying his band Vampire Weekend was still in the “off-season.” He added that while there had been discussions about a follow-up to 2013’s superb Modern Vampires of the City, work was moving slowly. Now, however, the above image seems to imply that speed is picking up.

Update – Friday, December 11th at 7:55 p.m.: As Team Vampire Weekend points out, the photo dates back to the recording sessions for Modern Vampires of the City. So, false alarm.

The picture shows Koenig and bandmate Rostam Batmanglij in studio together, apparently recording new music. According to Reddit, the image originally came from the Instagram account of Ariel Rechtshaid, producer of Modern Vampires.

It’s unclear whether the pair are actually working on new Vampire Weekend music, but we reached out to the band’s representatives and will let you know if we hear back.

Below, revisit the band’s video for “Diane Young”.
