Kurt Vile, Yo La Tengo, Thurston Moore, more contribute to Parallelograms split album series

on December 10, 2015, 4:55pm

Split records can give listeners the chance to experience the magic of two artists side by side, one complimenting the other in ways that often reveal new layers to the songs. To mark its fifteenth anniversary, North Carolina label Three Lobed Recordings has taken this concept to the extreme with the release of five new split LPs called Parallelograms.

In the works for the last few years, the collection is composed of records split between Kurt Vile and Steve Gunn; Yo La Tengo and Bardo Pond; Hiss Golden Messenger and Michael Chapman; Thurston Moore & John Moloney: Caught on Tape and Alan Bishop, Bill Orcutt, & Chris Corsano; and Six Organs of Admittance and William Tyler.

Physical copies of Parallelograms are being packaged together as a collection, with approximately 950 sets being produced. Three Lobed’s website does note, however, that the artists will each have individual copies of their own contributions for sale at some point in the future.

“The Parallelogram collection originated in the particular magic that comes from finding the *right* musical pairing,” said the label, adding, “The pairings contained within the Parallelogram collection take a few different forms. whether the artists are kindred spirits, former touring partners, and/or folks that have mutually inspired one another, the material on each side of each of these records feeds naturally into the other.”

You can purchase Parallelograms now via Three Lobed. The collection is also available for stream and digital purchase below via Bandcamp.
