In the months leading up to the release of Spectre, the 24th installment in the James Bond movie franchise, Radiohead emerged as the favorites to compose the film’s theme song. Ultimately, producers opted for Sam Smith’s theme, but the rumors were not unfounded.

This morning, Thom Yorke revealed that Radiohead did indeed write an original song for the film. “Last year we were asked to write a tune for Bond movie Spectre. Yes we were.” he tweeted. “It didn’t work out … but became something of our own which we love very much … As the year closes we thought you might like to hear it. Merry Christmas. May the force be with you.” (Nice Star Wars jab, Thom.)
