As screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally commence after months of anticipation, a few surprising casting details have started to come out. Yesterday it was revealed that comedic actor Bill Hader has a credit as BB-8’s Voice Consultant, and today it’s that English producer and unofficial sixth Radiohead member Nigel Godrich himself has a cameo in the film.
The revelation originated from a Reddit post that pointed out Godrich is credited as FN-9330 on IMDB. Apparently, the FN designation is reserved for Stormtroopers of the First Order, so it’s unlikely anyone would recognize the producer on screen. Still, Four Tet complimented Godrich on his performance via twitter:
It also appears that another musical man, composer Michael Giacchino, cameos as Stormtrooper FN-3181. In addition to his work on Pixar films like Ratatouille and Up, Giacchino has contributed to many projects helmed by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, including Lost, Super 8, and all three of the recent Star Trek reboot films. That explains how he slipped into the First Order, but how Godrich came about his role is unknown.
However, it’s not like he’s the only famous fanboy to take part in the blockbuster. Daniel Craig was also rumored to wear one of the white helmets (before he denied it — misdirection?), and Simon Pegg is credited as the alien Unkar Plutt. Ben Schwartz also helped create the voice for BB-8 alongside Hader.
